Summer Driver Education

Mitchell High School will have summer driver education provided by Signals Driving School starting on June 2nd 2014. This will take place at Mitchell High School starting at 7:30 am in the cafeteria. Signals will provide 12 days of classroom instruction with driving schedules made after enrollment. Registration must be complete by May 27th. All students must be 15 years of age prior to June 2nd. Summer School Session

Do you need to make up a class? Are you short a credit for graduation? Summer School will be open from June 2-June 20, 9 a.m.-noon each day. Most subjects are available. See your counselor to register/sign up.

Safe Night

Hoosier Upland, UAW, Duke Energy, Local Coordinating Council, Regenerations, Lawrence County Fair Board, Bedford Urban Enterprise, Bedford Federal Savings, WBIW, WQRK, WPHZ, and many others are sponsoring Safe Night at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds on June 14th 2014 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.

Parking Passes

Any student planning on driving to school and parking in the school parking lot must purchase a parking pass. Parking passes for the 2014-15 school year must be purchased in the high school office. Passes cost $3.00 each. Students must also have a drug policy form on file in the office. The parking registration and drug policy forms may be printed from our website.

Welcome Back to School

I would like to welcome all students, staff, and parents back to school for the 2014-2015 school year. We have many new changes and faces this year at MHS. I would like to welcome Mr. Pritchett as our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Lee in the library, Mrs. Phelps as studyhall monitor, Mrs. Asbell covering for Mrs. Sears, Mrs. Waldbieser as counselor, Mr. Burton as Choir teacher and Mr. Reynolds as our Athletic director. I would like to wish all of our Fall Sports teams good luck for the upcoming seasons. We hope everyone will come out and support our sports teams for the 2014-15 school year. Boy's Soccer

The boy's soccer team will take on Salem on Wednesday night October 8th  6:00pm at Salem in the boy's soccer sectional. The winner will play Saturday October 11 at 2:00pm for the sectional championship.

Congratulations to the boy's soccer team on beating Salem last night in sectional play. The boy's will play Saturday at 3:00 at Salem for the sectional title. Please come and support our Jackets as they try to win the sectional.

Happy Thanksgiving

 I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Mitchell High School will be observing the Thanksgiving Holiday from November 26th through November 28th. School will not be in session during this break. Have a safe and happy holiday.

 

Gary Seitzinger Recognition Night

On December 20th, at start of the varsity basketball game between Mitchell vs Brownstown  , Mitchell School Corporation will recognize Gary Seitzinger for his years of dedicated service to the corporation. Gary was a long time teacher and coach at MHS and the Mitchell Board of Trustees recently approved the naming of the baseball field after Gary. We would like to invite all the former players to come out and help us in honoring Gary on this occasion. There will be a sign in sheet for all past players to attend the game free of charge. After the varsity game there will be a reception in the school cafeteria. Please come out and support Gary and our Mitchell BlueJackets.

 

 

Post Prom Soup Supper

The junior parents will host a soup supper before the game against Perry Central January 24th in the school cafeteria. All proceeds will go to the MHS post prom. They will begin serving at 5:30 and serve till the start of the varsity game. Children 5 and under eat free, for all others the cost is $5.00. All patrons are welcome.

The Mitchell High School boys basketball homecoming will be held on January 31st vs Loogootee High School. The JV game will start at 6:00pm. We invite all patrons and graduates of MHS to join us during this event.

Girls Golf Regional Qualifiers

Congratulations to the girls Golf team for qualifying for the Regional on Saturday September 26th at Country Oaks in Montgomery Indiana. The first Tee time is 8:30am.

Fresh Start Picnic

The Fresh Start picnic for all freshman students at Mitchell High School will be September 28th at lunch. All freshmen will be provided a lunch this day!!

Lawrence County Health Department

The Lawrence County Health Department will be at Mitchell High School on September 29th for students that need updates to their immunizations. Please contact the Health Department if you have questions.

College Preparedness Program

There will be a college preparedness meeting for all juniors and their parents in the auditorium on October 5th at 6:30pm. This will provide helpful information for juniors that are planning on attending college.

Senior Meeting

The seniors will meet with the Herff Jones representative for a preparation of Cap/Gown/Announcements orders for graduation. A presentation will be given on October 9th 9:55-10:40 with orders being taken on October 14th during lunch and after school from 4:00-7:00pm. Parents please make sure that you get the order packets from your seniors.

Blood Drive

The Mitchell Key Club will sponsor the Red Cross Blood Drive October 9th in the high school gymnasium from 8:15-2:30pm.

Cross Country

Congratulations to the girls cross country team for advancing to the Cross Country Regional at BNL October 17th. Also advancing for the boys are Mark Gardner, Zach Vandeventer, and Trevor Marshek. The boys rgional race will begin at 10:30 with the girls starting at 11:15.

The PSAT will be given to all sophomores October 14th at Mitchell High School.

End of 1st 9 weeks

October 9th is the end of the first 9 weeks grading period at Mitchell High School. Grade cards will be sent home Friday October 16th at the end of the day.

Soccer

Congratulations to the Mitchell High School Soccer Team for winning the 2015 Soccer Sectional. The team will play at Switzerland County Thursday October 15th in the Regional at 5:30pm.

Summer Activities

Congratulations to the following:

*Anna Kluender spent 7 weeks in France studying the language and culture this summer. During her time there she was able to live with a host family.

*Annabelle Zile attended the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders in Boston. She was taught by numerous Nobel Prize award winners.

*Mrs. Robyn Embry was selected as one of 25 teachers nation wide to attend the "Maury" project and study oceanography at Annapolis Maryland.

* Mr. Kevin Giggy spent 1 week at I.U. studying the "WRAP" program on Writing, Reading alignment program.

These are all very exciting honors and programs and we are extremely proud of our staff and students.

SADD Food Drive

This week SADD conducted their annual food drive contest to collect food donations for the Life Food Pantry. By the end of the contest, students donated enough food to fill the beds of two trucks, an SUV and the trunk of a car.  Life helps an average of 1000 families per month so donations are greatly appreciated. Mrs. Amy Redman's class won the competition, earning a pizza party courtesy of SADD.

Semester Finals

The end of the first semester is quickly coming to a close. Mitchell High School will be having our final exams on Thursday December 17th and Friday December 18th.

The schedule is as follows:

Thursday periods 1-3-5-7 will test, and on Friday periods 2-4-5-6 will test. This will conclude our semester testing and take us into the new year.

 I would like to welcome all students, staff, and parents back for another good year at MHS. This year will bring many new challenges that we are looking forward to meeting head on. In an attempt to better prepare our students for the technological world,  Mitchell Community Schools will be implementing 1-1 computer technology for all students and staff this year. On site student registration begins on August 2nd and 3rd, Teacher In-Service days begin August 4th, and 5th, and students first day of classes will begin on August 8th. Congratulations to our high school team for a successful start to the fall seasons. Our soccer team is doing well and continuing to improve as the season go by. Our football team is 3-2 coming off of a big win on Homecoming this last weekend. The Cross Country teams are working hard to improve their times each meet. And the volleyball team is coming off a successful week winning 2 games. Keep up the good work athletes.
