How to save Canvas course content to ePub files for offline use

Overview: This document provides a step-by-step guide on how to generate an ePub file from Canvas and opening it it via the Readium ePub reader.

Please Note:  The ePub file is downloaded directly into the Chromebook's onboard memory.  It may be acessed directly from the "Downloads" folder.  However, to access it from a device other than the Chromebook on which it was downloaded, the file must be moved into Google Drive.

 

Step 1a: Generate the ePub files by following this guide provided by Canvas:

Step 1b: Download the ePub

1.) Click the "Download ePub" (1) link to download the ePub file to the Chromebook.  Then click "Show in folder" (2) to see the file in the Chromebook File explorer.

2.) The ePub file should appear in the Downloads section of the Chromebook as shown below:

3.) Open the Readium application either from the Chrome Home screen, All Apps, or type the name in the search box:

4.) Open the ePub file in the Readium app by clicking "Add items to your library

Then click "Choose file"

Then click on the appropriate ePub file and the "Open" button

The course should now be imported in to Readium

And will look similiar to this:

This course is now available for offline use.
