Principal's Message

Renee Childress
Hatfield Principal

Dear Families,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year! I am excited to begin our fifth year together as we work in partnership to ensure every student at Hatfield Elementary is actively engaged in a rigorous learning experience while developing social-emotional skills that will foster resilience, perseverance, empathy and the ability to collaborate and communicate in a diverse learning environment and work community. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education and I look forward to working with you and your children.

All signs point to an incredible and productive school year.  Our skilled and devoted staff has been planning and preparing for your child over the summer break.  Our enthusiastic office team is registering new families, ordering needed materials and updating student files.  Our hard working custodians have spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the facility.  And, our much appreciated PTO is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer other exciting events for our school family.  We are a caring community with common goals of nurturing responsible, caring students while maintaining high expectations for student growth and success.

Our teachers and staff are compassionate, innovative and always learning something new for the benefit of your children.  We are a collaborative and driven group of educators who strive to help our students reach their highest potential.

Making connections and building relationships is a priority to me.  I believe that building strong relationships between home and school is a key factor in increasing student achievement.  As your principal, my door is always open and I welcome and value your input.  Parental involvement is an essential component to student success, as research continues to show strong correlation between increased parental involvement and high student success.

One of the greatest characteristics of the Hatfield learning community is the genuine care and compassion shared between staff, students and parents.  Hatfield Elementary's mission statement reflects that we are a place where staff and families come together to "Empower students through collaboration to become productive citizens and ready for THEIR tomorrow."  I look forward to an amazing year!

School Hours: 8:20 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.

In the interest of safety, please do not drop off your child before 7:50 a.m., as there is no supervision before that time.  Also, please be sure to pick up your child by 2:45 p.m.

Arrival Procedures:

Our school day begins at 8:20 a.m.  Students arriving after that time are tardy and need to be escorted into the building by an adult using the front entrance.  Please be sure to have your child here on time.  Students who are consistently tardy are at a clear disadvantage and usually arrive feeling frantic and unprepared.  All students who arrive after 8:20 a.m. will be tardy and must sign in at the office with a parent.  If your child will not be present, please call and inform the office at (812)849-3834. We care and get concerned when they are absent.

Dismissal/Pick-up Procedures:

Students dismissing to buses: The FRONT of the building is the dismissal location for children who ride the school bus.  Staff members will escort the children out of the building at 2:45 p.m.

Students dismissing to private vehicles:  The dismissal area for students being picked up after school will occur at the REAR of the building.  Vehicles should enter the parking lot and follow the driveway behind Hatfield, circling to the left and making a single-file line, stopping at the south door.  Staff members will be on duty to assist children in loading vehicles and escort children out of the building at 2:45 p.m.

Dates to Remember:

Meet the Teacher Night ~ Thursday, August 1st, 2019 from 5:00-5:45 p.m.

1st Day of School ~ Monday, August 5th, 2019

I look forward to seeing our school family return on our first day of the new school year, Monday, August 5th, 2020.  We missed you and cannot wait to see you!
