Dear MCS Families,

On Wednesday April 14th, MCS was informed of a Mitchell Junior High student who had received a positive COVID-19 test result.  After contact tracing, 40 MJHS students were placed on quarantine protocol.  All individuals and their families affected by this have been contacted.  The following are our quarantine guidelines.

  • If a student is placed on quarantine protocol their quarantine can end after Day 10 without testing and if no symptoms have been reported during daily monitoring
  • or the quarantine can end after Day 7 with a negative test result received no earlier than day 5 of the quarantine and no symptoms were reported during daily monitoring.

For Mitchell Students quarantined on Monday April 12 or Wednesday April 14, MCS will be providing free COVID-19 testing on Monday, April 19th at Emerson Gymnasium from 8:30am – 10:30am.  If a negative test result is produced at that time and no symptoms have been reported, quarantined students may return to school on Tuesday, April 20th. Those taking advantage of this service, will need to park on the south Emerson Gym parking lot and enter the marked door.  Tested students will need to remain for 15-20 minutes to receive results.  Students administered a test will have to have a signed permission form from a parent or guardian.  If this form has not been completed a parent or guardian will need to sign a form on that date for the test to be administered.  Masks will be required.

I know at times it is difficult to find the positive in our current situation, but I would encourage everyone to focus on the many successes of our students, staff and families over the past year.  Time and again the MCS community that is made up of those same students, staff, and families have faced every challenge and found ways to continue to achieve.  I am so proud to say that I am part of MCS and I know that we are becoming a stronger school district because of these challenges and those who makeup Mitchell Community Schools.

Sincerely,

Brent Comer, Ph.D.
