Hatfield 2nd Grade is IREAD Ready! This week our Hatfield Elementary School 2nd Graders will have the opportunity to show what they have learned in Phonics, Reading, and Reading Comprehension as they participate in the annual IREAD state assessment. Our students, teachers, and the entire Hatfield team have worked hard to prepare for success on this exam. While standardized testing has its purpose, please know that we measure success in so many ways other than any standardized test score. No one test can gauge… The smiles students put on the faces of others. The challenges students have overcome with grit and determination. The kindness, trustworthiness, and loyalty that have been exhibited each and every day. The hard work put into being the very best that one can be. The responsibility shown at home and in school. SO…MUCH…MORE! Ultimately, our students’ scores will provide us with valuable information about what our students know and how we can continue to grow as a school. Our students are extraordinary! They inspire us, they bring smiles to our faces, and they bring us immeasurable joy. As always, it is our promise to focus on the whole child, building self-esteem, teaching valuable life skills, and understanding that a child’s value goes far beyond any test score!

The 2025-2026 Academic Year Calendar has been officially approved by the MCS Board! One key change for next year involves planned two-hour delays. Instead of following previous schedules, there will now be a two-hour delay on the second Wednesday of select months: 📅 September, October, November, January, March, and April These delays will provide valuable time for our teachers to plan, collaborate, and participate in professional development—ultimately enhancing student learning. We appreciate your support and look forward to another amazing school year!

Today, our Kindergarten, First, and Second Graders had an exciting visit from one of our very own MCS teachers, Mrs. Maggie Hamilton—a 5th-grade teacher at Burris and this year's Iditarod Teacher on the Trail! 🏔️🐕 Mrs. Hamilton shared all about her upcoming adventure at the Iditarod, teaching us about the history of the race, the incredible sled dogs and mushers, and fun facts about Alaska! 🌨️✨ Mrs. Hamilton also informed us that she will be riding on a sled during the opening ceremony and flying in bush planes from checkpoint to checkpoint to bring us live race updates all the way back here in Mitchell! We are so proud of Mrs. Hamilton and can’t wait to follow her journey. Safe travels and best wishes, Teacher on the Trail! 🎉👏

Attention Families: Potential for eLearning! We are closely monitoring the forecast for next week, and with the possibility of accumulating snow, all elementary students will bring home their Chromebooks and chargers on Friday, February 7th, as a precaution. As of now, school is still scheduled to be in session on Monday, February 10th. This is simply a proactive measure to ensure we are prepared for Indiana’s unpredictable winter weather. :-) Reminder: Chromebooks and chargers must be returned to school each day that we are in session. Thank you, and have a great weekend!
