Dear Hatfield Families,

As we continue to monitor the winter weather forecast for next week, we want to share important information about how eLearning will work at Hatfield if school is impacted by weather. If an eLearning Day is called, Mitchell Community Schools will use synchronous eLearning, which is different from the self-paced asynchronous eLearning we have used in the past. With that being said, Chromebooks and chargers will being coming home with students on Friday of this week.

What does this mean for students?
Students will log in through Google Classroom on their Chromebooks
Students will join their teacher live using Google Meet
Live learning will take place from 9:00–11:30 AM
Teachers will be logged in and meeting with students for live instruction during this time

This approach is not self-paced. Teachers will be providing instruction live and may need flexibility as they work with schedules for instructional times. We appreciate your patience and understanding as teachers make these adjustments.

Attendance and State Guidance:
If a student is unable to join a live Google Meet due to connectivity issues, device charge, or other circumstances, the student may complete assigned work in Google Classroom. Completed work will fulfill attendance requirements for the synchronous eLearning Day.
Synchronous eLearning days do not need to be made up at the end of the school year.
The state only allows three asynchronous (self-paced) eLearning days, which MCS has already used.
Because of this, MCS may use as many synchronous eLearning days as needed due to winter weather.

Thank you for your flexibility and continued partnership as we work to keep students learning while keeping everyone safe.

Today we celebrated the 101st Day of School, and our First Grade students made it extra special by connecting their learning to 101 Dalmatians! Through creative activities, students found exciting ways to make the 101st day count while showing off just how much they’ve learned so far this year.

🎉📚 Happy 100th Day of School!📚🎉

We celebrated being 100 days smarter in so many fun ways today! Counting 100 steps, learning 100 different things, meeting 100 people, reading 100 words, and even feeling 100 years old! 🧓😄

To make the day even more exciting, our Hatfield students and staff showed their Hoosier Hysteria by wearing Cream & Crimson as we cheered on IU Football heading into the College Football National Championship!

Happy Hatfield says, “Hoo...Hoo...Hoo...Hoosiers!”

🎄✨ Only ONE Day Left Before Christmas Break! ✨🎄

With just one day to go before Christmas Break officially begins, things have been pretty exciting—and a little wild—around Hatfield! From surprise visits by the Grinch to hands-on learning about owls in Mrs. Dusard’s class, we’ve definitely embraced the wild side of learning. The exciting side has been filled with holiday cheer and festive fun like building gingerbread houses, sharing silly snowman jokes, imagining life inside a snow globe, and even practicing reindeer counting.

A big thank you to the MJHS Honor Society and Mrs. LaFevor for spending time reading to our students, and to Raptors Rise Rehabilitation Center for visiting and sharing their amazing owl friends with Mrs. Dusard’s class.

We have one last day before Christmas Break—and it also happens to be Wear Your Comfy, Cozy Clothes Day!

Attention Hatfield Families: Good evening. While today's sunshine allowed for a lot of melting, some of our county roads are still a bit slick in spots. In the best interest of the safety of our students, staff, and bus drivers, Mitchell Community Schools is going to operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Tuesday, December 16, 2025. Once again Mitchell Community Schools will be operating on a two-hour delay Tuesday, December 16th. Thank you and have a great evening.

Attention Families: Due to current road conditions in many areas of our district and the likelihood of little or no improvement by morning because of extremely low temperatures, Mitchell Community Schools will be utilizing asynchronous eLearning tomorrow, Monday, December 15, 2025. Remember that asynchronous learning means students will complete assigned learning tasks from home. Hopefully conditions will improve tomorrow and we will see everyone in-person on Tuesday. Have a great evening!

Good morning, Mitchell Families!

Due to continued snow and worsening road conditions overnight, we are transitioning from our previously announced two-hour delay to a full school closure and eLearning Day for today, Friday, December 12, 2025. Today will be an asynchronous eLearning Day, which means students should complete their assigned learning tasks from home. Stay safe, stay warm, and enjoy a little extra winter wonder this morning!

Good evening, Mitchell Families!

Mother Nature is sending a little winter weather our way tonight, so we will be on a two-hour delay tomorrow—Friday, December 12, 2025. With the possibility of accumulating snow and slick roads, this delay will help keep everyone safe on their morning commute.

Please remember: if conditions worsen, the delay may be upgraded to an eLearning Day tomorrow morning. Be sure to keep an eye on our school social media pages, as well as your phone and email, for any updates tomorrow morning.

Stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy your evening!
